Osumare(🌈) rainbow

Oxumarè (Òsùmàrè) is the orixá of all the movements, of all the cycles. If one day Oxumaré loses its forces the world will end, because the universe is dynamic and the Earth is also in constant movement. Imagine only the planet Earth without the movements of translation and rotation; imagine a permanent season of the year, a permanent night, a permanent day. It is necessary that the Earth does not stop moving, that after the day comes the night, that the seasons do not change, that the water vapor rises to the skies and falls again on the Earth in the form of rain. Oxumarè can not be forgotten, because the end of cycles is the end of the world.

Oxumarè lives in the sky and comes to Earth to visit us through the rainbow. He is a great snake that envelops the Earth and the sky and ensures the unity and renewal of the universe.
Son of Nanã, Oxumarè comes from Mahi, in ancient Dahome, where he is known as Dan. In the region of Ifé is called Ajé Sàlugá, the one that provides wealth to men. He would have been one of Odudua's companions on the occasion of his arrival at Ife.

They say that Oxumarè would be male and female, but in fact, this is another cycle that he represents: the cycle of life, because the union between male and female is that life is perpetuated. Oxumarè is a male Orisha.

Oxumarè is an ambiguous, double god, who belongs to the water and to the earth, who is male and female. It expresses the union of opposites, which attract and provide for the maintenance of the universe and of life. It synthesizes the duplicity of the whole being: Mortal (in the body) and immortal (in the spirit). Oxumarè shows the need for the movement of transformation.

Omulú is the elder brother of Oxumarè, but was abandoned by his mother for being born with the body covered with sores. In time, Nanan can not be condemned for this act, since it was a custom, almost a ritual obligation of the time, to abandon children born with some deformity. The god of fate told Nanan that she would have another son, handsome, as handsome as the rainbow, but never to be with her. He would live on high, travel the world without stopping. Oxumarè was born.

"Oxumarè that stays in the sky
Controls the rain that falls on the earth.
It reaches the forest and breathes like the wind.
Father come to us that we may grow and have a long life. "

Its colors are: Yellow and green (or black) and all colors of the rainbow

Its symbols are: Ibiri, serpent, circle, bradjá (buzios).
